Donald Brush Sawhill ’51
DON DIED SUDDENLY on Feb. 11, 1991, while vacationing in Delray Beach, Fla. He lived in Pittsburgh.
His life was about as full as it could be. He was a musician; he collected stamps, prints, and paintings; was an avid duck hunter, traveled widely, was a 32nd Degree Mason, served on numerous philanthropic and education boards, and had a house on Martha's Vineyard. From 1953 to 1968 he was on the board of Sawhill Tubular Products. He was made V.P. and secretary in 1960. After the company was sold, he joined the Pittsburgh investment firm of Moore, Leonard & Lynch and became executive V.P. in 1975 he founded his own investment firm in Pittsburgh.
Don came to Princeton from Deerfield. In college he majored in economics, rowed on the 150lb. crew, and was a member of Key and Seal and the Glee Club. He roomed with Ed Spencer. He was a lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War,
Don married the former Joan Monroe in 1970, the second marriage for both. In addition to Joan, he is survived by a daughter, Martha; a son, Donald; two stepdaughters; a stepson; and a sister, June. They all have the Class's deep sympathy at the death of an outstanding man.
