Donald Edward Byrne ’45
Don Byrne, who had just attended our 44th reunion, died on June 14 after a brief illness.
Don entered Princeton from Great Neck (New York) High School, excelled in football, crew, and golf, and was a member of Cannon Club. He served with distinction as a paratrooper with the 13th Airborne in Europe dur¬ing WWII. Don then took his law degree from New York Law School and became a partner in the firm of Byrne, Wild, Jube and Kafer in N.Y.C. He and classmate Howard Kafer later formed the firm of Byrne & Kafer. At his death, he was in partnership with classmate Bill Crosbie. Don resided for many years on Long Island, where he pursued his interest in golf at the Westhampton Country Club. He also tested courses throughout the world.
Don modestly declined to submit entries about him¬self for the class yearbooks, but his interest in the univer¬sity and the class remained strong throughout his life. He rarely missed a reunion, and he made and retained many friends in '45 and in adjacent classes. Among the many who attended his services were classmates Bill Crosbie, Jack Johnston, and Bob Peers. In addition to a sister and four brothers, Don is survived by his first wife, Beverly, and their son John, daughters Tracey, Barbara, and Margaret, and grandson Duane; and by his second wife, Silke, and their daughter Frauke. To all of them the class extends its sympathy.
