Donald M. Malehorn ’52
Don came to the class from Morristown (N.J.) High School in the community that became his lifelong hometown. He majored in history, joined Cannon, played hockey and other club sports, and belonged to the Pre-Law Society. He roomed with Hobey Kreitler, Jack Blessing, and Marty Battestin. He went on to Columbia Law School as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and then served in the Navy before forming a firm with friend Stephen Wiley ’51. Together they served public education in Morristown by uniting two districts to achieve racial balance.
Don was an attorney for the school district in Morristown for many years and served as a board member of the Morris Educational Foundation. An enthusiastic member of Kiwanis, he was an officer of a number of charities, including the Colonial Hockey League, Planned Parenthood Association, and Morris County Mental Health Association. He worked as our class agent and as a popular member of the executive committee of the class.
Don died March 16, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Carol; and their children, Robert, Richard, and Beth. The class sends its sympathies, along with appreciation for Don’s military service to our country, to them all.
