Donald Mather Skidmore ’41

Body

Don (“Skid”) died in a nursing home near Cincinnati Nov. 30, 2009, from lymphoma, which was diagnosed only a few weeks earlier.

A native of Elizabeth, N.J., Skid came to Princeton from Exeter, and majored in electrical engineering. A member of Dial Lodge, he roomed first with John Stanley and later with Malcolm Roberts.

After graduation, Skid joined Sperry Gyroscope Co. on Long Island, where he remained for his entire business career until retiring as director of technical services in 1980. He was heavily involved in the design and manufacture of airplane navigational instruments.

After the death of his first wife, Elizabeth Sweet, he came alone to our 50th reunion and met Moyra, widow of our classmate George Schroeder. After a successful court-
ship, they were married in 1994 and lived in Louisville, Ky., until Moyra’s death in 2006.

Skid is survived by his sons, Donald and Frank; his stepson, Peter Schroeder ’62 (our class baby); stepdaughter Wendy Blair; four grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.
