Donald Philson Chernoff ’52

Body

DON CHERNOFF died suddenly in Hollywood, Fla., on Aug. 22, 1981. He was interred in the cemetery of Temple Beth El, Avon, Conn., where he had been a member while living in West Hartford, Conn.

Don came to Princeton from the Loomis School, Windsor, Conn. He withdrew during his sophomore year to be married, and later graduated from Wesleyan Univ. Don received his law degree from Columbia.

Several major interests shaped Don's life. At Princeton, he was active in WPRU, where he became music director. He held a job as staff announcer and disk jockey at a local radio station, WCNX, while a student at Wesleyan. In 1977 and 1978, he was a news anchor for TV Channel 10, Terre Haute, Ind.

While he was a partner in the law firm of Pomerantz and Chernoff in West Hartford, Don became very active in city politics. Between 1960 and 1968, he was on the City Council of West Hartford, and served two terms as deputy mayor.

In 1968, Don left his law partnership, spent a year in N.Y., and then moved to Florida, where he passed the bar, and entered law practice. From 1978 to 1981 he was with the firm of Hallender and Associates.

Don is survived by his former wife, Dorothy; four children, Deborah, Jeffrey, Julia, and Amy; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Philip M. Chernoff, and a brother and twin sisters. To them we extend our sincerest condolences.
