Donald Reid Maynard ’50

Body

DON DIED FEB. 16, 1992, at the Univ. of Virginia Hospital, from complications subsequent to an accidental fall in his new home in Charlottesville. He relocated there from Jamesburg, N.J., last November. He was 63.

A native of Burlington, N.C,, Don came to Princeton from Woodberry Forest in 1946. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and majored in chemical engineering. He was on the editorial board of the PRINCETON ENGINEER and a member of Cloister Inn.

After graduation Don attended Harvard Business School for one year. He then spent two years in Korea as an Army captain, returning to Harvard and receiving the M.B.A. degree in 1954. He joined Exxon and served for 18 years in engineering and management positions, before becoming V.P. and treasurer of Linden Chlorine Products Company. Don married Julia (Judy) Steed in 1953; they were with us at the 40th reunion.

Don is survived by his widow, Judy; his son and namesake, Donald Reid Jr.; brother Jim; and sister Janet Henderson. He was a gentle man, loyal to his friends and Princeton. The Class shares in his loss and extends its deepest sympathy to his family.
