Douglas Dodge Schouler Jr. ’41

Body

Doug Schouler died Feb. 8, 1995, at his home in Hampstead, N.C. A long and debilitating illness failed to suppress his natural optimism and cheerful outlook.

After Princeton, Doug served four years in the army in antiaircraft artillery, including a stint as an instructor at Camp Davis, N.C. In 1946, he joined IBM, where he held a number of sales and marketing management positions during a successful 29-year career.

He took early retirement in 1975, and for the next 14 years, he and his wife, Dorothy "Doach" Fairlie alternated between seven months in their home on St. John, Virgin Islands, and their Fire Island summer place at Point O'Woods, N.Y.

In Doug's own words, in our Class's 40th yearbook: "For us two, these are the best years of a life full of love, good health, an exciting, fun job, some rewarding contributions to causes beyond our own, and productive, involved, happy kids ... " What a fine summary of a good life!

Doug is survived by his widow; three children, Ann, S. Stewart, Douglas D. "Trip" III, and Joan S. McCollough; and seven grandchildren. To them, the class extends its deepest sympathy.
