Douglas Ranney Adams ’48

Doug was a graduate of Exeter and joined us after a stint in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 on the U.S.S. Wyoming. He earned his bachelor’s degree in June 1950 in psychology. He was a member of Tower.

His business career was in maritime insurance for many years. He retired from Marsh & McLennan Inc. in 1989.  

In 1951, Doug married Nancy Barr. They lived in Edison Township, N.J., for their married life of nearly 58 years. They created a lovely parklike landscape around their house. They also established a well-known kennel for breeding and showing miniature poodles and both Nancy and Doug were judges at shows.  

He was a deeply dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 33 years.

Doug is survived by Nancy, their daughter, Lissa Gjertsen, and granddaughter Anna Rose.
