Douglas Thomas Neale ’28

Body

DOUG NEALE died in Delray Beach, Fla., on June 5, 1992. He received his secondary education at Atlantic City H.S.

His first job after college was with a printing firm in Philadelphia, Harris and Partridge, Inc. He then joined Edwin J. Schoettle Co. and became treasurer and president of this company, retiring in 1966.

During WWII, Doug was a lieutenant with the U.S. Naval Reserve, stationed at Philadelphia and Jacksonville, Fla. He was a member of the Union League, the Philadelphia Country Club, and the Rotary Club, and was active in the Presbyterian Church.

He married Louise Lowry on Aug. 4, 1929. They had two children, Barbara Louise and Douglas Lowry. Barbara, who died in 1979, was the mother of Barbara Franks '76, an outstanding swimmer who married Hallett Johnson '74. Doug married a second time, to Vera Marjorie Lynch on Aug. 14, 1945. She died on Sept. 9, 1990. There were two children from this marriage, Thomas Evans and Marjorie Read. There are seven grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. Doug's sister Kay was the wife of the Rev. Kenneth M. Kepler '27.

Doug and Vera retired in Coral Gables, Miami, and at Harbour's Edge, a retirement community in Delray Beach. Doug kept busy, for a few months with United Bancshares, then as an executive with Panelfab International Corp., and finally for some years as owner and operator of a retail flower shop, from which he retired in 198 1.

Doug was 1928's efficient Class secretary from 1958 to 1963 and was for a time chairman of the executive committee. We will miss his energetic and enthusiastic participation in the affairs of our Class, and our sympathy is with the members of Doug's family.
