Dudley H. Garland ’32

Body

DUDLEY DIED Aug. 7, 1993, at the Largo Medical Center Hospital in Largo, Fla., where he had lived since 1976.

After leaving Princeton, he was in business in NYC until called to active duty as a reserve officer in 1940. His outstanding war record included participation in American landings in Africa, Sicily, and France, followed by campaigns in Belgium and Germany. He received a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart. After the war, he was, in his own words, "in and out of army service for some 32 years," among other things attending infantry and missile schools and the Command and General Staff College. He retired as a colonel in 1965.

Thereafter, Dudley worked as a district representative in New York for the Research Institute of America, before retiring to Florida. In Largo, he was a prominent member of the Sons of Norway, serving as its financial secretary for five years.

He is survived by his widow, Astrid; two daughters, Katherine Figueroa and Lesley; two grandchildren; and a brother, Robert '29. To all of them the class extends its sincere condolences.
