Duffield Hamilton ’26

Body

Duff Hamilton died in White Plains (New York) Hospital on May 29, 1989, after a brief illness. He was 84. He served as chairman of our Reunion Committee from 1976 to 1981 and did a most effective job. He headed the team that staged the highly successful 55th reunion in the Henry Chauncey Conference Center, outside Prince¬ton. (Jim Newman's gripping faculty program, "Tech¬nology—Servant or Master?," set the theme.)

Duff also staged 4 mini-reunions in various Eastern states, 4 off-year reunions at the Nassau Club, 5 Alumni Day parties, 20 Class Council meetings, 4 winter dinners, 40 Tuesday luncheons at the Princeton Club of New York, and 5 football weekend parties—topping it all off with the quinquennial meeting of the class in June 1971. There is no one in 1926 to whom we owe more for quietly and efficiently handling class assignments.

Duff was a native of Brooklyn and prepared for Prince¬ton at the Friends School, in Brooklyn Heights. During WWII, he served as a first lieutenant in the Field Artillery Reserve and was attached to the 13th, 18th, 22nd Corps. After the war, he joined the National Electrical Manufac¬turing Council as its recording secretary; he ended his working career in that post.

In 1936, Duff married Helen D. Hoffman. The marriage ended in divorce. In 1946, he married Laura J. McKenna. Duff was devoted to the class, and we are grateful for his years of service. Our deep sympathy is extended to Laura, who survives.
