ONLY CHILD AND BACHELOR Herb Waentig, with a distinguished 27year career at McGrawHill, died May 6, 1991, in Yucatan of cardiac arrest.

At Poly Prep, Herb was editor of the school newspaper, business manager of the year book, member of the Honor Society, swimming and tennis teams, and graduated cum laude. At Princeton he majored in geology, was a scholarship winner for three years, third prize winner in the Time Current Events Contest, and graduated with honors. After preliminary dabbling in the insurance business, Herb joined the Naval Reserve as an apprentice seaman and rose to the rank of lieutenant, also serving as gunnery firecontrol officer on the cruiser SAN JUAN and participating in twelve engagements in the Pacific. He joined McGrawHill Book company in Nov., 1945 in its sales and then its editorial department, becoming a full editor in 1961, and senior editor in 1965. He retired in 1973, as editorinchief of the scholarly book division, to engage in world travel, including the Orinoco in 1985 and Beijing in Jan., 1989.

Although he was preceded at Princeton by a great-uncle, an uncle and numerous cousins, Herb left no immediate family.
