Victor Wolfenstein, professor of political science at UCLA, died Dec. 15, 2010, of cancer. He was 70.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Columbia in 1962, and a Ph.D. in politics from Princeton in 1965. Joining UCLA that year as an assistant professor, he rose to full professor in 1979. He was with its Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Politics since its inception in 2006.

Wolfenstein also earned a Ph.D. in psychoanalysis from the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute, where he taught from 1988 to 2002. From UCLA, he received the awards for dedication to teaching and the pursuit of academic freedom (1991), and for teaching with distinction for graduate teaching (1994). He also earned Academic Advance-
ment Program faculty recognition awards in 2002 and 2008.

Just prior to his death, he submitted the final manuscript for his latest book, Talking Books: Toni Morrison Among the Ancestors.

Wolfenstein is survived by his wife, Judy; four children; and four grandchildren.
