Edward E Wilson ’26

Body

ED WILSON, retired Chicago corporate executive and former Assistant Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, died of cancer Mar. 19, 1994. Ed came to Princeton from Lawrenceville. Ed was a member of THE TiGER board, the 1926 memorial committee, and lower Club.

Following graduation, Ed started work with Wilson & Co. in the meatpacking business founded by his father. In 1934, he became its chief executive and in 1953 he became chairman of the board. Ed retired in 1956, and later became Assistant Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare in the Eisenhower administration.

Chicago remembers Ed for his work with numerous organizations, including the Boy Scouts, the Y.M.C.A., the American Cancer Society, and Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital. When he lived in Washington, Ed was also active in the community, at the Natl. Presbyterian Church, which he served as an elder, and in the Red Cross of Washington, where he was a board member.

Ed married Pauline Wyman in 1940, and they enjoyed 45 years together prior to Pauline's death. Ed is survived by sons Edward '63 and Kendell '67; by five grandchildren, including Katherine 1 96; by his widow, Frances Wilmer Wilson (they married in 1988); and by sister Helen Williams. To all of them, we extend our sympathy.
