Edward G. Thurber ’62
Ed died July 9, 2023, in Fullerton, Calif.
After attending Lawrenceville School, he entered Princeton following his father Gerrish Thurber ’28 *29, and his grandfather, Samuel Wood Thurber 1890. Ed majored in aeronautical engineering, was a standout on the track team, and dined at Cannon. He held the University javelin record for 15 years (now third all-time) and captained the track team his senior year. His senior year he roomed at Lockhart Lair, where he formed lifelong friendships. The group regularly met up through the years to share memories and enjoy one another’s company.
Earning a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Southern California. Ed was a professor for 38 years at Biola University. He published several research papers and was a respected scholar and mentor.
Ed married Leona “Lee” Izmirian in 1966 and they had two children, Edward Gerrish Thurber and Stacy Thurber Whitelock ’96. Lee died in 2002 and Ed married Barbara Ann Turner in 2005. Ed was blessed to be called Grandpa by 17 grandchildren. His legacy and memory will long remain and live on in those who loved him so much.
