Edward Gardner O'Brien ’31
CANCER AGAIN reached into our ranks to claim the life of Ed O'Brien on June 29, 1989, in the New Rochelle Hospital Medical Center. Ed entered Princeton from the Hun School, but was with us only until mid-sophomore year. He was a member of the freshman football and basketball teams, and later played varsity football.
Ed left Princeton in Feb., 1929, to work for the Associated Press and, in time, became manager of the Latin American Division. Later he went into the transportation business in White Plains, N.Y., as owner of the Central Taxicab Co. In recent years he was president of Economy Leasing Corp., an Avis franchise. He was an avid golfer, but had time to be of service to his community and church. He had served on the board of directors of the White Plains Chamber of Commerce and on the executive committee of the Convocation of Westchester.
Ed is survived by his wife, Doris; three daughters, Phyllis Christian, Gail Eldowney, and Gertrude Christiansen; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. To them we offer our sincere expressions of sympathy. That we have not been privileged to share more time with Ed since he left Princeton has been our loss.
