Edward Glassmeyer Jr. ’36

Born in Jersey City, he attended Dickinson High School there and majored in economics at Princeton. He was on the 150-pound crew and was a member of Triangle Club, Glee Club, and the choir. He belonged to Key and Seal and served as its comptroller.

In 1936, Ed started as a statistician with Blyth & Co. When he left investment banking in 1969 he was senior vice president and on the executive committee of the board of directors.

His great interest in education resulted in his becoming a trustee of Athens College in Greece in 1960. He was president of the college from 1969 to 1973. Greece was the scene of one of our class’s best mini-reunions.  

Ed’s first marriage ended with his wife’s death in 1982. He is survived by his second wife, Martha Moody; a son, Edward F. ’63; three daughters, Elizabeth Traynor, Mary Maloney, and Edith Heilman; and 18 grandchildren, including Edward M. ’89.

Our sincerest condolences to the family. We’re proud of this multi-talented man who accomplished so much in life and thankful for his ongoing efforts for 1936 and Princeton. We were honored to have him as class president from 1981 to 1986.
