Edward James Harrigan ’41

We have just learned of the death of Ned Harrigan on Sept. 14, 2006.  

A native of New York City, he prepared at Brooklyn Preparatory School, Staten Island Academy, and then the Peddie School. At Princeton, he majored in geology and history, played freshman and JV baseball, was active in Theatre Intime, and joined Elm Club. He roomed with Jack Cornwell all four years.  

Receiving his commission from ROTC, Ned was called into service in early 1942. Although in the field artillery, he became a liaison pilot, serving with various units in the Pacific theater. He earned battle stars for the Mariana Islands, Philippines, and Okinawa campaigns, and was awarded the Air Medal. He was separated as a first lieutenant in late 1945.

Ned worked for several companies in the New York area before joining Sayre and Fisher Brick Co. in 1949. However, by our 25th reunion, he had become vice president of Sunrise-Household Fuel Co. in Amityville, N.Y., and eventually became its president.

Ned is survived by his wife, Helen Elizabeth Hersperger, whom he married in 1950, and their daughter, Laura Ann.
