Edward Montford Fucik ’35

Body

Ed Fucik, also known to us as “Red,” died peacefully April 6, 2010, in Lake Forest, Ill.

Born in Chicago, he prepared for Princeton at Deerfield-Shields High School in Highland Park, Ill. At Princeton, he majored in civil engineering, played football, was a member of Tower Club, roomed in Little Hall with Jack Brown, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

After Princeton, Ed earned a master’s degree in engineering at Harvard and served as a naval officer in the Canal Zone during World War II. After the war he joined Harza Engineering Co. of Chicago, serving ultimately as chairman and president, where he worked with, consulted on, and developed hydroelectric and water-resource projects throughout the nation and the world. He won numerous professional awards during his career and was a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

A proud Tiger, he supported Princeton in many ways, not the least of them an annual football bet with a Cornell friend for 30 or 40 years. We last saw him at our 60th reunion.

Ed is survived by Margaret, his wife of 67 years; daughters Meg and Jane; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Edward Jr., and a brother, Frank ’39.
