Edward Oneil ’31

EDDIE O'NEIL died Oct. 3, 1993, in Sewickley and his widow, Lydia, died Oct. 5. Eddie came to Princeton from Andover. At Princeton, he was on the freshman football team. He and Lydia traveled extensively. His hobbies were varied, including minerology, bird watching, golf, hunting, fishing, ham radio, and stamp collecting. He was a director of the Princeton Alumni Assn. of Western Pennsylvania and active in Annual Giving in the Pittsburgh area. Eddie established the insurance firm of McCloskey and 0 1 Neil, which later became part of Alexander and Alexander. He was a trustee and active supporter of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, even going with the staff on field expeditions in search of specimens. The research center of the museum was named in his honor. Eddie was also involved in conservation and wildlife activities. He was a life member of the Allegheny Trails Boy Scout Council and was awarded the Scout Silver Beaver. Eddie is survived by his daughter, Charlotte Oliver; a brother, George R; three grandsons; and a greatgrandson. The class extends its sympathy to the O'Neil family.
