Edward Sampson Jr. ’42 *50
ED DIED Jan. 4, 1992, of Alzheimer's disease, in Boulder, Colo., his home for nearly 40 years. He devoted his entire career to teaching civil engineering, retiring in the early '80s as a full professor on the faculty of the Univ. of Colorado.
Ed joined the Class from Millbrook, majoring in civil engineering, but left before graduation to join the U.S, Army during the war. He returned to Princeton after serving three and a half years as a lieutenant, to earn both bachelor's and master's degrees. Following a short period of service on the faculty of Colorado College, in Colorado Springs, he moved to Boulder, where he taught for nearly 30 years, attaining the rank of professor emeritus at the time of his retirement.
Ed was interested in a wide range of life's gifts, including literature (his taste was impeccable), music, sailing, skiing, world affairs, the world of law, architecture, creating sculptures, rocks, minerals, flowers, and animals. He made life very rich for those around him.
To Ed's widow, June; to his three daughters, Emma, Maia, and Lisa; and to his son Edward III; the Class extends its most sincere sympathies.
