Edward Theodore Barker ’53

Ted passed away five months after his double first cousin Ben Edwards died. His first wife, Rosemary, died in 1990.  

Ted prepared at St. Louis Country Day School. At Princeton, he played squash for four years and baseball for two, dined at Tower Club, and graduated as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After graduating from Washington University School of Medicine, where he also was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and service as a captain in the Army Medical Corps, he practiced pediatrics for over 40 years.  

Upon his retirement, Ted and his wife, Julia, lived a rustic life in a log cabin Ted built on the Flambeau River in northern Wisconsin. Winter was spent in Jupiter, Fla., where the couple could watch the Cards in pre-season training.  

Ted is survived by Julia; his brothers, William S. ’56 and Nicholas P. ’59; five children; four stepchildren; and 20 grandchildren.
