Edward W. Rogers ’38

Body

Ed Rodgers died on Mar. 25, 1989, at his home in Media, Penn., after a four-year battle with cancer. He had deter¬mined that his illness would not prevent him from at¬tending our 50th reunion (albeit on wheels), and he and Bill Thacher had the only perfect reunion attendance records at that time. He was a familiar presence at Reun¬ions, wearing the deerstalker 8-Ball hat from our 15th.

A native of N. Y.C., Ed graduated from the Peddie School. After his years at Princeton and service in Eu¬rope as an engineer in the Army during WWII, he began a lifelong career as sales manager, first in Manhattan for the Hoover Co. and then for the appliance division of Westinghouse. His last work was in real estate, and he retired in 1985. Ed was an inveterate bridge enthusiast and belonged to Philadelphia's prestigious Cavendish Club, which hosted many international bridge tourneys.

A number of Ed's classmates attended his memorial service, at the Media Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his widow, the former Gladys Shaw; two sons, Edward W. Jr., of Glen Mills, Penn., and Raymond R., of Mis¬soula, Mont.; a daughter, Jo-Anne Banks, of Corte Madera, Calif.; and a grandson. To all of them we extend our most sincere condolences.
