Edward Wieber Kahler ’37

At Princeton he majored in English, rowed on the crew, and was a member of the University Orchestra, Triangle Club, and the string orchestra. He graduated with high honors and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Ed taught at three private schools before moving to New Trier High School in Winnetka, where he taught English, French, and Spanish for 34 years and coached football, basketball, and tennis. Later he organized a “Great Books” program for adults.

Ed continued his love of music through his life, often playing the cello. One of his hobbies was fixing watches and clocks, a trade at which he became an expert. He also served on the local library board.

Ed is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; two sons, Edward W. Jr. and Frank C.; a daughter, Katherine Suarez; two grandsons; and one granddaughter. The class extends its heartfelt sympathy to Ed’s family and friends with fond remembrances of a loyal classmate.
