Edwin Alexander Weed ’31 *34
A LONG ILLNESS for Ed Weed came to an end with his death on Aug. 16, 1989, at the Bentley Village Healthcare Facility in Naples, Fla. It also brought an end to a long career in architecture and engineering for which he had prepared as an undergraduate and later in Princeton's M.F.A. program, leading to this degree in 1934. Ed took full advantage of the opportunities for extracurricular activities. He was on the crew squad, the Class, and later, club football and baseball teams, and was a member of Theatre Intime and Triangle Club.
Ed served four years in the Navy, assigned to aviation and staff operations duty in the American and Pacific theaters. When he left the service in Nov. 1946 with the rank of commander, he went to Honolulu and practiced there as a partner in the firm of Wood, Weed and Associates. Later he formed a partnership with classmate Clint Schofield to practice in New York. He became a principal in Associated Construction Consultants in N.Y.C., and owner of his own consulting architectural and engineering firm when he moved to Naples. His competence was recognized through the offer he received to lecture at the Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison, a service he rendered for 12 years. He also served Princeton on the schools and scholarship committees of the alumni associations in both Honolulu and Darien, Conn.
Our sympathy is extended to Ed's widow, Helen, better known to us as "Tap"; to his son, Winthrop, and daughter, Linda, and to his grandchildren Kirsten and Darcy.
