Edwin Rice Dwelle ’46

Body

EDWIN RICE DWELLE died Nov. 22, 1992, after a brief bout with cancer. Ned was a graduate of King School, Stamford, Conn., joining our Class in June 1942. In November, he left to join the Army Air Corps, serving in the C.B.I. as a first lieutenant in Gen. Chenault's Flying Tigers' "Guerrilla Squadron," through which he won four battle stars. Rejoining the Class after the war, Ned played baseball and 150pound football and was managing editor of the NASSAU SOVEREIGN, a member of Tiger Inn, and an economics ma) or.

Ned began his professional career as a merchandizer with Chernstrand in New York, whence he moved on to Monsanto Chemical in Atlanta, as manager of textiles market research. After Ned's retirement, the family moved back to Darien, Conn.

Ned is survived by his widow, the former Dolores Deran; by sons David, Edwin, and Paul; by daughters Melinda Dwelle Valerie and Susan Dwelle Maziar; and by four grandsons. In addition, he leaves his sister Elizabeth Dwelle Halliday and her children Elizabeth '87 and James '90. Our Class will miss Ned's devotion to Princeton, his long experience as a supporter of Class and University activities, and his unstinting help to many other good causes.

We in the Class send our deepest sympathy to Dolores and her family and express our fond farewell to Ned, one of our stalwarts.
