Elliott H. Lee ’16
GABY LEE DIED in Medford, NJ., June 17, 1990. Born in Ridgeway, Colo., Mar. 2, 1895, he graduated from Princeton as a Phi Beta Kappa in economics. Gaby once served as treasurer of the University's Alumni Council, and held numerous Class officer posts over the years. At the time of his death, Gaby was president of the Class.
Gaby served as a first lieutenant in France in WWI, receiving three CroixdeGuerre from the government of France. From 1919 until 1959 he was employed by the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company, retiring as V.P, During WWII, at President Roosevelt's request , he or ganized and led the American aid to France, in recognition of which the French government made him a chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
Gaby also served in numerous leadership posts of the National Council of the Y.M.C.A., the American Red Cross, the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, and of the Westover School. He was a member of the University and Princeton Clubs of New York.
To Gaby's daughter Nancy Lee Ballenger, his four grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren, and to his nephew, the Class extends its deepest sympathies.
Nancy Ballenger wrote in loving memory: "Gaby had a twinkling eye, a continuing interest in people, gusto for friendly competition, and an undying love of and pride in Princeton. He chose Princeton because of its honor system. He was looking for a place that fostered integrity, hard work, and excellence. I believe he found it because he lived his life by those principles and carried Princeton with him like a badge of honor. One speaker at his memorial service called him a 'Walking Tiger,' and, indeed, he was."
