Elmer Kenneth Sandbach ’37

Body

IN FRESHMAN YEAR and for three varsity years, Ken played in every football, basketball, and baseball game. He came to Princeton from Columbia High School and the Hun School (where he rowed on a Henley-winning crew). In college he was a member of the Undergraduate Council and the Honor Committee, was V.P. of our Class and winner of the Poe Cup (football), Kafer Cup (baseball), and the Roper Trophy (general proficiency in athletics). In business, he was V.P., Far East Operations, for the Koppers Co.

Ken married Alice Gordon in 1938. They had three children, Gordon '65, Heath, and Neale. On Apr. 1, 1990, in Sydney, Australia, where they lived because of his emphysema, he died quietly. To those with whom he worked or played, Ken will always be remembered as one who excelled in a quiet, gentle manner. His athletic successes never made him feel superior to others.

The Class extends its deepest sympathy and admiration for Ken to his widow, Alice, his three children, and his brothers, Don and Bob '43. We all have lost one of the very best.
