Emile Houston Wolf Dewitt Ramel ’25

Body

DEWITT RAMEL was born in Lewes May 23, 1903, and died in Brooklyn Mar. 3, 1993. A graveside service was held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lewes on Apr. 11 and a memorial service on June 13.

Dewitt prepared at Adelphi Academy. At Princeton, he was on the board of the NASSAU LITERARY MAGAZINE, serving as circulation manager his senior year. He was a founding member of Arbor Inn.

On graduation, he joined American Express as a foreign travel representative. He retired in 1970. He handled the booking arrangements for some 55 classmates and wives who traveled in May 1956 to Japan as guests of Tazuka and classmate Yoshio Osawa for an entire week. The group, headed by our president, Charlie Caldwell, traveled extensively through Japan and was wined and dined by Japanese dignitaries. Princetonians of nearby classes joined us in portions of the tour. Dewitt was an excellent guide for the arduous trip, getting us home for Reunions.

During WWII, Dewitt served with the British air mission in Washington in highly confidential work and later with the O.S,S.

He was a vestryman of Trinity Episcopal Church in Brooklyn.

He was a faithful attendant at Reunions. His Princeton connections include Robert Orr '38 and George Nicholson, Class of 1858.
