Eric Ferdinand Heckett ’50

Body

ERIC FERDINAND DIED Nov. 2, 1991, after a short battle with cancer, at his home in Bermuda. He had retired there several years previously, after living in Europe for many ears, including more than 20 years in Ireland. His son Nicholas wrote shortly after his death that while his father had been a successful businessman, his family will better remember him for his love of the arts, in particular his poetry. His undergraduate activities certainly bore promise of this interest. Joining us from Hill School, he became Class poet, chairman of the NASSAU LIT, and a member of the governing council of Whig-Clio. He was also active with TIGER magazine, the Triangle Club, and Theatre Intime. An honors graduate from the English department, he was an Elm Club member.

Surviving Eric are his widow, Catherine; three daughters, Joanna, Sophie, and Louisa; his son Nicholas, and stepson Curt. To all of them, the Class extends its sympathy for the premature quieting of Eric's poetic voice.
