Ernest F. Keer Jr. ’55

A third-generation Princetonian, his father was Ernest Keer Jr. ’23. Ernie grew up in Montclair, N.J., and graduated from Montclair Academy. A member of Charter, he left Princeton after two years to serve in the Army during the Korean War.

His successful business career was centered on the insurance firm of Keer & Heyer. Ernie’s contributions to community and civic institutions were highly valued. He was a trustee of the Ocean Medical Center in Brick, N.J., and a member of the Bay Head Planning Board, Bay Head Improvement Association, and Bay Head Volunteer Fire Co.

Ernie sailed and played tennis and golf in New Jersey and Bermuda, where the family enjoyed a lovely second home.

His dear friend, Tad LaFountain ’72, said, “Ernie was a great guy. He exuded friendliness to all and was an iconic figure on the tennis courts at Bay Head. He will be missed.”

To Sue, Ernie’s wife of 53 years; his children; grandchildren; extended family; friends; and his special four-pawed companion, Somers; the class extends deepest sympathy.
