Body

ERWIN SACKSWILNER, a retired ophthalmologist who practiced in Trenton for over 50 years, died Dec. 8 in the Univ. of Pennsylvania Hospital. He had been chief of the Helene Fuld Medical Center Dept. of Ophthalmology in Trenton and president of staff; an assistant surgeon at the Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia; a member of the faculty of the Rutgers Medical School; and a fellow of Research to Prevent Blindness.

Erwin was also on the board of trustees of the Helene Fuld Medical Center, the board of governors of Hahneman Univ. School of Medicine (where he did his postgraduate work), and president of its alumni association. In the 1960s, he was president of the Princeton Alumni Assn. of the Trenton area.

Asked in 1984 to summarize his 50 years out of college, Erwin stated, "I love having treated and helped the thousands of people that came to my office and clinic... retirement is a light in the dim future."

Surviving are three sons, a brother, and three grandsons. To them we offer our sincere sympathies.
