Eugene F. O'Neil ’49

Body

Eugene “Gib” O’Neil died Nov. 25, 2009.

Gib served as a naval aviator in World War II prior to entering Princeton. He majored in economics, was president of the Catholic Club, and was a member of Tiger Inn. Graduating in 1948, he then earned an M.B.A. from Harvard in 1950.

Gib tried the business world for a short period of time before being ordained as a Jesuit priest. As a Jesuit he taught at Fordham University School of Business. He then worked at the Providence headquarters until 1974, when he left the order and married, becoming the instant stepfather to three sons and three daughters ranging in age from 15 to 24. He spent the rest of his career self-employed in the financial field. He and his wife were avid golfers.

Gib is survived by his wife, Carol; six stepchildren; and five grandchildren. The class extends its sincere sympathy to them.
