A graduate of the Pingry School, Gene was distinguished at Princeton. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in philosophy and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He then earned a master’s in philosophy at Princeton before attending Harvard Law School, and joined McCarter & English in Newark, N.J., where he spent his entire career.

Gene long served Princeton’s Trinity Church as a member of the vestry and warden. He served four bishops as chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey over a period of 18 years.

In 1971 he married the love of his life, Janet Marshall. They established a lovely garden at their home in Princeton and ventured further afield for several years as followers of the Monmouth County Foxhounds.

Deepest condolences are offered to Janet. The service for Gene at Trinity Church was attended by a large number of classmates in reunion jackets.
