GENF. YATES died June 5, 1992, in Atlanta, Ga. Surviving him are his widow, the former Jane Henderson Alford; daughters Mrs. Ginger Morrison, Mrs. Margaret Jorgensen, and Anne; sons Eugene Ill and Sam; sisters Mrs. Betty Ensign and Mrs. Margaret Berkheimer; and 13 grandchildren.

A graduate of Connecticut's Kent School, "Spud" came to Princeton from New York. He was a member of Colonial Club and roomed with Bill Johnson. Junior year he left to attend the Univ. of Virginia. A flier in WW11, he served two years in North Africa. He was recalled to fight in the Korean War, where he flew 100 missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Until his retirement in 1984, he headed the Georgia Power Co.'s industrial development department and was a company V.P. Community activities included the Atlanta Rotary Club; the Georgia and Atlanta Chambers of Commerce, where he chaired the industrial development committees; the Piedmont Driving Club; and the Capitol City Club. Gene loved "the wild blue yonder" so much that he founded the AAA Air Charter Co. when he retired. He continued to fly for it until just a year ago.
