F. Pennington Kemp Jr. ’56

Body

Fox Pennington Kemp Jr. died at his home on Aug. 5, 1983, his 50th birthday. He had an outstanding career at Louisville (Ky.) Male H.S. and had intended to matriculate at Princeton with the Class of '55. But Penny's life, plans, and abilities changed permanently in Aug. 1951 when he was a passenger involved in an auto accident that left him with a brain injury.

Heavily medicated and prone to seizures, Penny entered Princeton a year later, but was unable to keep up and left after freshman year. Subsequently, he graduated from the Univ. of Louisville, aiming for a career as a high school teacher. Penny taught first at rural schools, then worked at larger high schools in Louisville. His reaching career ended in the late 1970s, when persistent effects of his injury forced him to retire.

Penny is survived by his mother, Virginia H.; his sister, Virginia Davis Stites; and his brother, Ashton H. To them, the class extends its sympathy.
