Francis M. Barker ’47

Body
cum laude

On returning to the United States he married Anita Bradshaw. They lived in New York and Fran worked on investments with Bear Stearns — at a typical Wall Street pace.

In 1971, determined to live a more relaxed existence, they moved to Williamsburg, Mass., near the beautiful Berkshire Mountains. Fran engaged in commercial banking in Pittsfield until 1991. This work did not interfere with an active civic life, notably on behalf of conservation and land preservation. In his later years Fran especially enjoyed auditing courses at Williams College and trout fishing.

Fran was active in ’47 Annual Giving campaigns. In our 40th yearbook he wrote of his Princeton years: “I will always be grateful to Princeton for turning me from rebellious adolescent into a fairly civilized individual with a first-class education.”

Fran enjoyed life with Anita to the hilt, and together they enjoyed two children and two grandchildren. He died Jan. 12, 2009.We extend our very warm wishes to his family.
