Francis Prescott Hersey ’30

WITH THE DEATH of Deke Hersey in Wellesley, Mass., on Apr. 14, 1992, the Class lost one of its most loyal members. Before coming to Princeton, Deke prepared at Exeter. At Princeton he achieved fame as captain of the championship varsity golf team. lie was a member of Cottage Club. During freshman and sophomore years he roomed with Howie Elting and Lee Ross, during junior year with his brother Winthrop '29 and Elting, and during Senior year with Elting.

Following graduation Deke entered the family business, the Hersey Manufacturing Co., starting off as bookkeeper and gradually advancing to secretary, treasurer, and senior V.R lie retired in 1975. He was a trustee of the South Boston Savings Bank and a member of its Board of Investment. He also served on the Taxation Committee of the National Assn. of Manufacturers.

Deke maintained a life-long interest in golf and enjoycd a certain reputation as an amateur golfer in the Boston area. He was a member of the Dedham Country and Polo Club and the Webahannet Golf Club in KenDebunk Beach, Me., where he summered for many years.

Deke's wife predeceased him. He is survived by his son Peter '56, a daughter Nancy Paulson, and his brother Winthrop '29. We extend to them our deepest sympathy.
