Frank Millin Mellinger ’33

Frank died Nov. 25, 2001. He was 91. He was born in St. Mary's, Pa., and became a longtime resident of Madeira, Ohio. After receiving an engineering degree from Princeton, he earned a master's in 1941 at Carnegie Tech. He later taught soil mechanics at the U. of Cincinnati. He was director of the Army Corps of Engineers, the Ohio Laboratory Division, from 1953-70. Much of his work focused on the construction of solid airfield surfaces. Frank and his wife, Helen, were married 53 years. They had three children, Louis, Christine, and Ron, six grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. They also sponsored Ghirmei and Asmeret Haile from Eritrea, whom they considered their own children. Frank was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years.

Touching tributes to Frank were sent by a nephew, Jim Todhunter, and a granddaughter, Jess. Frank will be missed by many.
