Frank Sandstrom ’38

Body

Born in Fort Collins, Colo., Frank died on Dec. 21, 1999, at Porter Hospice in Littleton, Colo.

"Storm" transferred to Princeton from the U. of Colorado in 1935. He roomed with Frank Cranmer, John Evans, and Fariish Jenkins, joined Colonial Club, and graduated in politics via the no-course plan, with high honors.

Frank was with Prudential Insurance and Bank of Manhattan from 1938-42, and rose from private to capt. with the Army's military police from 1943-46. Thereafter, with Morgan Gauranty Trust Co. of New York, from 1946-75, he advanced to chair of the credit policy committee and the assistant to the chair of the board of directors.

He "retired" in 1975 to serve two years as a consultant to Goldman, Sachs & Co., and five years, before the Gulf War, as a pro bono adviser to the Minister of Finance in Kuwait. At home in Santa Fe, he was director of Santa Fe Opera, First Interstate Bank, and the School of American Research.

In 1941, Frank married Sybil King, sister of Fred King '38, both deceased. The class extends deep sympathy to Frank's daughters, Virginia S. Emley and Judith S. Stephan, his sister, Barbara Gurtler, and his four grandchildren.
