Body

FRED DIED of lung cancer Apr. 20, 1994, in Westport, Conn. He was 79. He prepared at Thayer Academy. At Princeton, he majored in philosophy, was active on The Tiger, and belonged to Elm Club.

Fred started his aviation career in economic planning at American Airlines and spent the rest of his career as an aviation economist, consulting with cities, states, and airlines. He appeared frequently the Civil Aeronautics Board as an expert witness.

Fred served as chairman of the Municipal Housing Authority of Tarrytown, N.Y., and was well known for the annual Dixieland barn dance he and his wife, Jeanne, held in their barn. He loved jazz and for several of our early major reunions, he secured the bands that entertained us.

While living in Westport, Fred served on the board of finance and was chairman of the Democratic Committee. He also served as board chair the Unitarian Church and as head of the committee responsible for building the church. Fred was also a justice of the peace for 30 years, officiating in than 600 marriage ceremonies.

Fred is survived by his widow, Jeanne, whom he married in 1937; by daughters Joy Overstreet, Faith Russell, and Molly Tashian; and by five grandchildren. This loyal Princetonian will be remembered.
