Frederick Haskell Parkin ’37

DREAD DIED Dec. 26, 1992, in Pittsburgh, after a long illness with cancer. He prepared for Princeton at Shady Side Academy, Pittsburgh. At Princeton he was a member of Elm Club and was active in Triangle Club. He graduated with a degree in psychology. His entire business career was spent as president of Parkin Chemical Company.

In 1941, he married Laetitia Herr, and they had four sons. After her death in 1977, Fred married Julia George Renz, who brought three daughters to the family.

During WWII, Fred was involved in the invasions of Africa, Sicily, and France, receiving the Bronze Star and the French Croix cle Guerre. During the campaign in France, he was the first officer to enter the city of Roubaix. Because of his participation in the liberation of this city, lie was made an honorary citizen.

In Pittsburgh, he was a member of Longue Vue Club and served as president of the Christmas toy fund, Chemical Sales Assn., Highland Park Community Club, and the University Club. He was active in the Ostomy Society and received an award from the local county commissioners for ten years' participation in the Cancer HotLine Program.

Fred is survived by Julia, four sons, three stepdaughters, 11 grandchildren, and a brother, William M. '32. The Class extends sincere sympathy to his family.
