Frederick A. Kahler III ’39

Body

AFTER A LONG DECLINE, Fritz died of Alzheimer's July 16, 1994, at a hospital near his daughter, Carol Cunningham, in Reseda, Calif. She had taken care of him ever since he had to give up his home in Renton, Wash.

Fritz majored in physics and was a physics instructor at Princeton until 1943, when he went into industry, joining Bell Aircraft Corp. as an aerodynamics engineer. Except for a brief return to teaching at the Univ. of Illinois, he devoted the rest of his career to the aerospace business, working for Bendix, Convair, United Aircraft Corp., and Boeing. He worked on the development of manned space vehicles and on missile-guidance systems.

Fritz and his first wife, Janet Gregory, had two children, Stephen '69 and Carol. When last he wrote to us, he called his two grandchildren, Jean and Robin, the top joys of his life. His brother Edward '37 also survives. To all of those he loved, we offer our sincere sympathy.
