Gale L. Kelly ’58

Gale Kelly, a resident of Southgate at Shrewsbury, Mass., died Aug. 10, 2011.

Gale came to Princeton from East High School in Denver, Colo., where he was the front-page editor of the school newspaper and active in dramatics, baseball, and swimming. At Princeton he was a member of Elm Club and the politics department, received a junior varsity letter for managing the freshman baseball team, and also served on the Campus Fund Drive.

After fulfilling his ROTC obligation in the Army as a second lieutenant, Gale earned a master’s degree in public administration in 1962 from the University of Denver before moving to the University of Wisconsin, where he taught American government while earning a Ph.D. in 1972. From 1965 to 1971 he served as assistant and associate director for Wisconsin’s state board of higher education.

In 1976, he became associate dean and deputy provost responsible for academics in the non-medical health sciences at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. After 16 years at the University of Massachu-
setts, Gale retired and became a political educator and administrator at Clark University.

To Nancy, his wife of 50 years; sons Christopher and Jonathan; and his sister, Sharon, the class sends sincerest sympathy.
