Gale Pollard Johnson ’46

GALE POLLARD JOHNSON died Aug. 10, 199 1, at the age of 66. He and his wife, Paula, seldom missed a major Princeton reunion and indeed they were planning to return to our 45th when his bout with cancer prevented it. Gale was a brilliant engineer, who until his retirement in 1990, worked for the American Telephone and Telegraph Company,

Born in Albany, N.Y., Gale attended Albany Academy from elementary grades until his graduation in 1942. Three Academy friends became his '46 classmates: Jim Adams, Bob Perkins, and Van Warner, After his return from three years in the Army Corps of Engineers, Gale roomed with Van and another '46er, Jack Farley.

Transplanted from New Jersey to the South, Gale and Paula arrived in Atlanta in 1962, with Gale soon becoming a Civil War buff. He and Paula traveled often to Europe but always were happy to return to their home in the South.

As a loyal member of the Class and friend of many of us, Gale will be sorely missed. Heartfelt condolences from the Class go to Paula, to their son Bruce, to their daughter Victoria Gold, and to their two grandchildren.
