Geoff died Feb. 19, 2017, in Chattanooga, Tenn. Geoff came to Princeton from the Groton School, following his father, Gardiner Young ’43. A religion major, he was a member of Tiger Inn and a starter on the rugby club team.

Geoff earned a law degree from the University of Vermont Law School and practiced law in Chattanooga with Witt, Gaither & Whitaker; Shumacker, Witt, Gaither & Whitaker; and Miller & Martin.

Geoff was very active in civic life in Chattanooga. He served as an officer or board member of many organizations, including the Helen Ross McNabb Center, Girls Inc., Bright School, the Memorial Health Care System Foundation, the Partnership for Families, Children and Adults, the YMCA, the Rotary Club, and the Chattanooga Bar Association. He was a vestry member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and chaired the Southern Tennessee Alumni Schools Committee.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Burke Young; children Matthew Gardiner Young and his wife, Amy Danielle; Geoffrey Logan Young and his wife, Marget Yuspeh; Jennifer Burke Traynor; and Zachary Lawrence Traynor; two grandchildren; and a sister, Deborah Hawthorn. The class sends condolences to the family.
