Geoffrey Herr Longenecker ’68

Geoff died Jan. 13, 2009, at home in Versailles, Ky., following a battle with cancer. He was 62.

Geoff was born in Pittsburgh and prepared at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, where he was active in sports and student government. At Princeton he majored in English and ate at Tower. After Princeton, he received a law degree from Tulane, where he was on the law review and in the Order of the Coif. After clerking for Judge Robert Ainsworth of the Fifth Circuit, he practiced law in New Orleans as a litigator in his own firm.  

Sam Mitchell set him up on a blind date with his future wife, Sally, whom he married in 1969. With Sally he got a Morgan horse as part of the deal. That horse grew into Saralin Farm, a gorgeous farm and a breeding and training operation for Morgans. The farm moved to Lexington about 25 years ago, while the law practice remained in Covington, La.  

Geoff was above all else devoted to his family, the farm, and the Morgan horse breed. He is survived by Sally; his children, Geoffrey, David, and Jane King; and five grandchildren. To them all, the class extends its deepest condolences.
