George Halsey, professor emeritus of chemistry at the University of Washington, died Jan. 15, 2016, at the age of 90.

Halsey graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1943. In 1948, he earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from Princeton. From 1948 to 1951, he was a junior fellow at Harvard, and left to become a professor at the University of Washington.

He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1955. With three colleagues, he published a textbook, Physical Chemistry, in 1964. In 1965, Halsey earned the Kendall Company Award in Colloid Chemistry from the American Chemical Society. He retired in 1993.

Halsey is survived by his wife, Yadviga; three children (including Sarah ’85 *06); four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
