George Edward Leh ’24

Body

GEORGE EDWARD LEH died Nov. 25, 1992, in Allentown, Penn., where he had lived all his life. Eddy was a senior partner of a department store chain, H. Leh & Co., that was founded by his grandfather in 1850. It is thought to be the only family operated retail business of its kind in the country. Eddy was very prominent in civic, welfare, and church affairs and in real estate acquisition and development. He and his family donated several large tracts of land to the city of Allentown for playgrounds and parks, including a 37.5acre site. He prepared at Lawrenceville, where he was captain of the track team. At Princeton, he was a member of the championship track team of 1922, on which he ran the 220yard low hurdles and the 880yard lap of the mile relay. He served in WWII as a lieutenant commander in the Navy. His wife, Betty Keck, predeceased him. He is survived by his son John (who was our Class Boy), his son Andrew, and by I I grandchildren and ten greatgrandchildren.

To them we extend our sympathy.
