George Enger Connett ’42
GEORGE DIED of cancer Dec. 18, 1992, in South Dartmouth, Mass., the summer home to which he had retired in 1980 to enjoy fulltime his love ofsailing and painting.
Coming to Princeton from St. Paul's School in Concord, N.H., George majored in art and archaeology, winning the architecture prize in 1941, and graduated magna cum laude. He served in the Army Medical Corps during WWII, before joining the Prudential Insurance Company, where he was employed for 38 years, retiring as a corporate V.P. During his years in Mendharn, N.J., he served as trustee of the Newark chapter of the Red Cross, director of the Essex County Blood Bank, commissioner of New Jersey Public Broadcasting, and president of Greystone Hospital.
After retirement, he was actively involved in several organizations in the New Bedford area. He was a past commodore of the New Bedford Yacht Club, a past president of the Luncheon Club, president of the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and a member of the Apponagansett Bay Trust and the Bierstadt Art Society.
George was not only an avid sailor, but a talented artist, successfully selling his watercolors for which he had developed a ready market.
To his wife of 50 years, Kadie; his son, Stephen; his daughter, Carol; and his three grandchildren; the Class offers its most sincere sympathies.
